A Silent Song Book Launch
Lisa Roullier grills me about A Silent Song, world-building, Pen to Print and more.
I had a great time at Barking Library celebrating the official launch of A Silent Song. Lisa feels like an old friend these days, as we've been at plenty of Pen to Print events together. Her and Tahmid soon had me organised and relaxed and had really created a lovely atmosphere at the library. They even arranged for snow as we left - truly magical!
The quick-fire questions were a lot of fun, some I definitely need to think about. She then went into further depth with questions about the inspirations for A Silent Song, the Pen to Print journey and what I'm working on next. Thinking back from my initial ideas back in my teaching training days to a published, officially launched book really showed me how far I've come. As I said at the launch, I haven't yet got bored of seeing a book with my name on the cover.
I somehow managed to read two extracts and answer questions without giving away any spoilers. Those of you who have read the book will appreciate how tricky that was. The first bit I read was the prologue: that and the first chapter are what got me into Pen to Print in the first place after all. I also read a very brief extract from the third battle for a bit of a change of mood. This section also showed the importance of friendship to Els: a critical theme in the story.
There was a great atmosphere and I'm really looking forward to my next event at @BLC: see you at Love in the Library!
